What I Can Help You With

We hear the word “trauma” a lot, and there can be confusion about what it actually means.  In essence, trauma is simply any experience that overwhelms your ability to cope, leaving a lasting imprint on your mind and body. It might be a single event or a series of difficult experiences. Trauma is less about what happened and more about how it affected you.

Trauma can shape how you see yourself, how you relate to others, and how you navigate the world.

If trauma is playing a role in your life, we can work to make sense of what’s happened, process those experiences in a way that feels safe, and help you move forward without trauma calling the shots.

Trauma

Through the lens of trauma, some of the things I can help you with are:

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Complex trauma (cPTSD)

  • Intrusive thoughts & memories

  • Attachment-based disorders and dysfunction

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Sleep disturbances and disorders

  • Anxiety disorders (Generalised Anxiety, Panic, Phobias)

  • Chronic depressive disorders and low mood

  • Sexual dysfunction and paraphilic Disorders

  • Low self-worth, self-criticism, & shame & guilt

  • Difficulty relating to others (e.g. trusting others, people pleasing)

OCD is a term that gets thrown around casually, but the reality of living with it is very different from how it’s often portrayed. OCD can feel like a constant loop of unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviours, all aimed at reducing anxiety, but never actually succeeding. It’s exhausting, time-consuming, and can take over your life.

OCD can show up in many forms, from fears of contamination to intrusive thoughts that feel distressing or even completely out of character. It can make you question yourself, avoid situations you once enjoyed, or leave you feeling trapped.

I aim to help you work on facing your fears in a way that feels manageable, reducing those unhelpful compulsions, and building a life that isn’t controlled by anxiety.

Treatment Approaches

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy is a primary treatment I offer to help individuals heal from the past to address the challenges they face today. This evidence-based approach guides the brain in reprocessing trauma, reducing the hold that painful memories have over you.

EMDR Therapy can facilitate lasting change, helping individuals overcome a wide range of psychological conditions, symptoms, behaviours, and relational difficulties.

If past experiences continue to affect you, whether through anxiety, PTSD, low self-esteem, or other struggles, EMDR Therapy may provide a manageable way to move forward.
