FAQs

The Stuff You Want To Know

Appointments & Availability

When do you offer appointments?
I offer appointments during business hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I also have limited Wednesday evening sessions, but these tend to book out quickly.

How do I make an appointment?
You can get in touch via my contact page, phone, or even text to arrange an appointment. Once booked, I’ll send you the necessary forms, your Zoom link, and any other details you need before your first session.

Do I need a referral to see you?
No, you don’t need a referral to start therapy. However, if you’d like to claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist. If you’re using Medicare, I’ll need a copy of your referral before your first session.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens! If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24-48 hours’ notice to avoid the cancellation fee, which is the cost of the session. This allows me to offer the session to someone else who may be waiting for an appointment. I always appreciate as much notice as possible.

Fees & Rebates

Do you offer a Medicare rebate?
Yes! With a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you can claim up to 10 rebated sessions per year. I’ll process these rebates for you after each session so the money goes right back into your account. Current rebates are approximately $140.

How do I get a Mental Health Care Plan?

From your GP. Make sure you request a ‘long appointment’. Your GP will assess your needs and determine if you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Note that only those with a diagnosed mental disorder are eligible. A GP can only refer for six sessions at a time, so you’ll need to see your GP after your first six to access further funding.

Do you offer bulk billing?
Sorry, I am not a bulk-billing practice.

Can I claim through my private health insurance?
Many private health insurance providers offer rebates for psychology services. It’s best to contact your insurer to check what your policy covers. If you’re claiming through private health, you’ll need to submit the claim directly to your insurer after payment.

Can I use Medicare and private health insurance for the same session?
No, you can’t claim both for the same session. Some insurers also will not pay for psychology until after you have used your eligible medicare sessions.

Do you provide services under NDIS, TAC, WorkSafe, VOCAT, or DVA?
No, unfortunately, I don’t offer services under these funding bodies.

Therapy & Treatment

What if I don’t know what type of therapy I need?
That’s completely fine! In our early sessions, we’ll talk about your needs, goals, and what approach feels right for you. My aim is to tailor therapy to you, not the other way around.

What if I feel nervous about starting therapy?
That’s totally normal! Many people feel a little uncertain at first. Therapy is a safe, non-judgmental space, and we’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you. You don’t have to dive into everything at once. We take it one step at a time.

How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your unique situation. Some people only need a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term therapy. We’ll discuss this early on so you have a sense of what to expect.

Do you provide therapy for children or adolescents?
No, I only work with adults aged 18 and over.

Online Therapy & Technology

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes! Research shows that telehealth therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy for many mental health concerns. It also offers the flexibility to attend sessions from wherever you feel comfortable.

What do I need for online sessions?
A stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or smartphone), and a quiet, private space. I use a secure video platform, and you’ll receive a link before our first session.

What happens if I have technical issues during an online session?
If we experience issues, we’ll try to reconnect. If the problem persists, we may continue the session over the phone or reschedule for another time.

Is online therapy private and secure?
Absolutely. I use a secure, encrypted video platform that meets Australian privacy and confidentiality standards. It’s also important to ensure you’re in a private, quiet space on your end to maintain confidentiality.
